The location is remote and the pub is not easy to find but, standing on the slopes of The Black Mountains, The Bull’s Head is surrounded by stunning countryside making the journey worthwhile. Seven miles south of the border town of Hay on Wye, the pub is below the Black Hill of Bruce Chatwin fame, which, at 640 metres, is the highest point in southern England.
This is an area of country pursuits. The walking is unrivalled with the Offa’s Dyke Footpath passing on the hill behind and The Monnow Valley Footpath passing in the valley just below the Bull’s Head. There are excellent trecking establishments locally and many of our visitors arrive on horseback leaving the horses tethered to a rail in the field.
